HDTV prices are very confusing because of the constant technological advances happening every few months. One month there is the largest plasma or LCD TV on the market for $XX,XXX.XX and six months later that same TV is several thousands of dollars less. It really confuses the earlier adoptors...kind of like the original iPhones did. I work on behalf of Sharp and have seen the constant confusion from readers and no easy solution is available. What I can say is that it is worth your money to invest in HDTV if you're in the market and ready for an upgrade because of the wonderful viewing experience one will receive. Additional, companies like Sharp have made recent efforts to create products like the Aquos LCD TV that are enviromental superior to the older, analog models. More info is here: http://sharpgreen.smnr.us/. Let me know if you have any questions.
